Default Dear Subaru,

Register to stop seeing this ad!

EDIT: I just posted a link to this letter in the comments section of Subaru's "Contact Us" page ( https://www.subaru.com/shopping-tools/contact-us.html ).

Attn: Customer/Dealer Services

Dear Subaru,

It was with a high level of excitement that I received the news of a Subaru diesel a while ago!

I am interested in a safe and efficient vehicle for my family (wife, daughter, dog, cats and horse accessories). I don't want to drive a vehicle every day that is capable of moving our horse. So, a four wheel drive truck is not necessary, or desired. I do want this vehicle to be all wheel drive and have room for stuff. We like to camp, canoe and to travel cross country.

I currently use our 1996 VW Passat TDI wagon for much our travels and a 1996 VW Passat TDI sedan for commuting. I am committed to small clean diesel vehicles, especially if they are capable of using domestic sustainable biodiesel.

To-date, no vehicle manufacturer has made available an all wheel drive diesel family travel/commuter vehicle.

I believe that your diesel engine in the Forrester or wagons/hatchbacks could serve our needs quite well! I look forward to their availability in the United States, to include Pennsylvania.

Sincerely,

Ben

PS, my wife's 1995 Saturn is on its way out. So, the sooner the better for a diesel Subaru!

Default Dittos from New Mexico

I'd write a virtually identical letter...in addition to our '06 Jetta TDI, we have a Dodge Diesel 4 wheel drive pickup, however, and we use the 4 wheel drive feature regularly. (It would be so simple if VW would give me a 4Motion Jetta Sportwagon...alas, no.)

The nearest Subaru dealer appears to be over in Tucson, Az...a little inconvenient. Oh well. I'll go to the Subaru feedback site and add my comments and requests. I hope Subaru is more favorably responsive than VW.

M.

I just submitted the following note as well...

Dear Subaru,

I recently heard about the pending / possible arrival of the Subaru diesel boxer engine in the US. I am one American car buyer who will be waiting to buy.

I am interested in a safe and efficient vehicle for my family (wife, daughter, and 3 kids). I like the fuel efficiency of diesel and the safety record of the all wheel drive Subaru vehicles. I have test driven your gasoline powered Outback and Forester, but want the higher fuel efficiency of the diesel engines.

Please let me know the latest news on the timing of the diesel boxer's arrival in the US. Is it coming to Houston, TX? When?

Sincerely,

Kevin

Unhappy Sorry to dissapoint

Got this reply from Subaru Canada when inquiring about bringing the diesel engine to the Great White North:

Thank you for your interest in Subaru products.

Generally, we cannot comment on future model year plans as information regarding future vehicle line ups remains confidential until a public product announcement has been made. However, at this time, we are not aware of any plans to sell diesel Subaru vehicles in Canada. A complete market review would have to be undertaken before any decisions can be made.

Default More disappointment

I sent a letter to Subaru and got the following reply:

Dear Dan:

Thank you for your e-mail to Subaru of America, Inc. We appreciate you taking the time to contact us with your feedback.

First, please be advised that we have received many other contacts similar to yours so you will find that the statements below are the same as I have provided to other customers seeking a diesel Subaru.

Our chairman Ikuo Mori was actually misquoted by reporters when he originally stated that Subaru would bring our diesel to the US in 2010. He had meant in the 2010(s). Since that time there have been many re-interpretations of this statement posted to various blogs throughout the Internet.

Further complicating the issue is that the original statement of plans to bring the diesel stateside was made in 2008 after we launched vehicles in Europe but before the drop in the economy in the Fall of 2008. Subaru as well as every other company had to re-organize in the wake of this volatile market and consequently any future plans have gone under re-examination.

At this time, we have not been made aware of any set plans as to when we will offer diesel models stateside since these past events and statements.

Well, maybe if we get 500,000 members on here, they will pay attention and we will get our diesel Subaru's quicker?

Default response to request for subaru turbo diesel in US

Just rec'd this after emailing Subaru's communication director

"Thank you for taking the time to contact Subaru and for your interest in Subaru products, namely a Subaru diesel model.

Subaru has not yet announced when diesel-powered models would be available in the US. Early in 2008, Fuji Heavy Industries (FHI), our parent company introduced the world's first turbo diesel boxer engine for sale in European markets in the Legacy and Outback model lines. We then introduced diesel-powered Impreza and Forester models in Europe. Mr. Mori, FHI Chairman, had indicated that we are investigating the possibility of bringing U.S. diesel models States-side in the future.
We do appreciate you bringing to our attention your interest in a new Subaru diesel model. Your message has been documented in our Customer/Dealer Services database. This will allow for your feedback to be properly reviewed, tracked and considered by our Product Management Department. Subaru is always striving to improve upon its products and appreciates when our customers bring their interests, concerns and recommendations to our attention.

Thank you again for your interest in Subaru products. If we can be of any future assistance, please let us know.

Sincerely,

John J. Mergen
