I'm interested in a diesel Forester, but only if offered with a three-pedal manual transmission. The best combo would be the existing manual Premium X trim (with moonroof), add diesel engine, and enjoy!

I am ready to purchase my next vehicle and I already know what I want...a loaded Subaru Forester diesel 6spd manual! Problem is, it's not available yet in the USA. Frankly, I am tired of the excuse that "diesels aren't popular enough in the US to be profitable." My response to that is simple...Toyota lost money on the Prius Hybrid for 2 years when they first brought over, but they did it anyway because they saw the potential for the future. Now it outsells many non-hybrid vehicles...and they also marketed the hell out of the car. The US is the largest market for most car companies, so it is time for them to take a bit more "risk" and bring the lower volume models that could be profitable if the would just commit to it. No more excuses, Subaru! There is enough room in the US market for diesel versions of all of your models...because they are superior products!

My VW TDI is 4 years old and I want a new all wheel drive Diesel...VW won't bring their 4-motion into the States with the TDI engine so that leaves it up to Subaru. I'm waiting.

I test drove a '10 Outback with a cvt trans a few months ago. It was an interesting drive. I wonder if Subaru plans on mating the diesel to this trans for the US market. I'm sure they could calibrate it to stay in the diesel's powerband.

Subaru will make so much $ with a turbio diesel Outback in the US. With 44MPG it will be hugely popular. They are too late to the hybrid party here but can dominate the diesel party, which will come to the US as it has come to be the norm in Europe.
Hopefully they dont wait and allow VW and others to capture the diesel market here. C'mon Subaru..step up! |

if they are thinking in hitting big in the diesel side they should somehow step up or they could also launch together with other parties. For sure they will have and edge but launching first would be a great idea since they will receive feedback's and comments. And they will have time to adjust then re-launch to hit again the market.

There is alot of pent up demand for Subaru turbo diesel as they got everyone pregnant with their prior announcement that they would launch here in 2010. Introduction here is a certified NO BRAINER -given the car's rave reviews in Australia and Europe and the (current) lack of competition here in that market segment
